Faith Formation (Religious Education)

If your child was baptized in another religion (non-Catholic) AND is under age 17, STOP here. Your child is not eligible to participate in these programs. You MUST enroll your child in a Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (R.C.I.C.) program.

About our Program

As a parish, we recognize that parents are the primary educators of their children. Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes provides an At-Home self-paced faith formation program for children and youth in grades Pre-K (4 years and older) through 12.  Grade appropriate workbooks are assigned to each child and youth to learn and work on from home at their own pace with the guidance of a parent or guardian. Our At-Home program is for continuing religious education before AND after receiving a sacrament such as First Holy Eucharist and Confirmation.

At-Home Program Schedule & Registration

Children and youth participating in our At-Home Faith Formation Program have from the date of registration through the following May to read their workbooks and complete the related chapter and unit assignments. Students then receive credit for their participation when the homework (related workbook assignments) are turned in to our religious education staff. Specific dates for submitting your child’s homework for credit are announced every year at the end of April. These dates usually coincide with registration for religious education.

Registration and Homework Dates:

NEW and returning students may register and turn in homework at our Parish Office on the following dates and times:

  • From 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM (in the Guadalupe Room)
    • Aug. 27  CANCELLED due to hurricane warnings.
  • From 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (in the Guadalupe Room)
    • Aug. 30

These registration dates and times are for both the At-Home Faith Formation Program, Year 1 and Year 2 of the First Eucharist Program (Elementary, Middle School & High School).

Turning in Homework?

We cannot accept homework that is dropped-off at any other date, time, or location.  Your homework consists of the “Review and Apply” pages for each chapter AND all “Unit Review” pages.  Make sure that your child’s First & Last names are on the first page of the homework and that all pages are stapled together. This will help ensure that your child receives credit for their efforts.  You will receive a homework receipt at the time of submittal.
