Faith from a Global Perspective

En Español

Lent provides us with an opportunity a renewal of our Catholic identity.

Making present our place in a global society, we might think of our brothers and sisters in other countries– how they practice their faith or even face religious persecution.  John Allen from the Washington Post compares the perspectives. . . for “The ordinary American, when you talk about religious persecution, they think it’s about whether you can pray before a football game…. In the (U.S.A.), a threat to your religious freedom means you might get sued.”

“The global situation is something most folks never thought about before. In the rest of the world, you might get shot. Twenty one Coptic Christians were beheaded last year – for their faith. Others face systematic and horrendous persecution. Violations of human dignity and rights violations are just as numerous.”

Our Holy Father has set the example by traveling to many countries, some enthralled in war and poverty.  During his visit to Mexico this week, he seeks to bring hope to a country suffering from crime, corruption and inequality.” Let us pray for a successful outcome.
