Who We Are
We are an outreach ministry whose mission is to bring Jesus in the Eucharist to you in your home. In an effort to keep our faith community connected, we minister to our parishioners who cannot attend Mass or receive the Eucharist due to illness or disability.
Our ministers visit once a week on the weekdays at a time that fits your schedule. We bring the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the blessings of our family of faith, and a prayer service. We package this into a visit from one of our friendly ministers to brighten your day.
Requirements
- Recipients must reside within the parish boundaries. Call the Parish office to determine eligibility.
- Requests must come from the person requesting the service or a family member.
- Requests may also come from the chaplain or social worker of a licensed group home or other facility.
If You Are Hospitalized
Please be aware that most of our San Antonio hospitals have Catholic Chaplains and Eucharistic Ministers who bring Holy Communion to their patients. Be sure to request these services when you are in the hospital.
Sacrament of the Sick
Sacrament of the Sick used to be called “Extreme Unction” or the “Last Rites” and was given to those who were dying. Today it is given to those who are seriously ill or facing surgery or treatment such as chemotherapy. It can be given more than once. Only a priest may administer the sacrament. A deacon or lay person may not. Ideally, it should be given to a person who is nearing death but not in crisis and still conscious so they can make their last confession. It is usually administered once a year to those who are deteriorating or declining in health.
If you require the Sacrament of the Sick, please call the Parish Office at (210) 695-8791 and request the Sacrament.
If your Schedule Conflicts with Your Appointment with our Ministers
We understand that sometimes things happen beyond our control or we forget a doctor’s appointment. We care about our people and worry when we cannot reach them by phone or they do not answer the door when we have an appointment.
Please call the minister who made the appointment with you if at all possible. If you are unable to reach them, then please contact the Parish Office and let them know of your situation. They will get in touch with us.
