Project Cool
Summer months - June through August inflicts considerably high temperatures and humidity in San Antonio. As part of a coalition with the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Catholic Charities is continuing Project Cool during this period. The program provides a FREE 20-inch box fan to adults 55 years of age or older or disabled in an effort to provide heat relief and prevent heat-related illness during the hot summer months. A valid ID or disability verification is required for those younger than 55 years old to qualify. The goal of the program is to provide a free box fan to keep seniors cool without incurring high utility bills. Our Lady of Guadalupe Helotes Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul serves our brothers and sisters in need in Helotes and Northwest San Antonio. Our members provide food, emergency utility assistance and referrals to other community resources for more than 3,800 people in need each year. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul also organizes several service projects throughout the year including Pop-Up Food Distribution Events, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Christmas Gift Card Drive, and fundraisers.Seeing the face of Christ in our brothers and sisters in need of our help is what connects Vincentians to each other.
